ICF Builder Award
Background Information The ICF Builder Awards are held annually to
recognize the best in insulated concrete construction. They are widely
acknowledged as the most prestigious competition for projects built with
insulated concrete forms (ICFs), and showcase the innovation, quality, and
craftsmanship possible with this construction method. Winners are chosen in
four categories: Light Commercial, Heavy Commercial, Custom Home, and
Residential Development. A "Best Overall" Project of the Year was also
selected. This year's contest attracted a wide variety of entries in all
categories, ranging from a 120,000 sq ft. development in Nova Scotia to a 7,500
sq. ft residence in Pueblo, Colo. "The variety and scale of projects being
built with ICFs is truly astounding," said Clark Ricks, editor of ICF Builder
magazine and organizer of the competition. "We were very pleased with both the
quality and the number of projects submitted, and are already making
preparations for next year." Competition was particularly fierce in the
custom home category. Residential construction composes 70 percent of the
industry, nearly all of which is custom home construction. In addition to
the presentation ceremony at the IBS Show, winning projects will be featured in
the February 2006 issue of ICF Builder magazine and on the company's website
www.icfmag.com. "These homes and commercial buildings serve as our most
effective ambassadors, generating interest and curiosity during the
construction phase, then serving as concrete examples of the durability,
energy-efficiency, and beauty for which ICF structures have become famous,"
said Ricks. "It's time these outstanding projects received industry-wide
recognition, and we feel privileged to take a leading role in that."
ICF is an acronym for insulating concrete form, a construction
method in which hollow foam blocks are stacked like building blocks, then
filled with reinforced concrete to create a structure that is energy-efficient,
environmentally friendly, and virtually indestructible. The ICF industry has
averaged 20 percent growth annually over the last five years, and is not
expected to slow anytime soon. For more information visit
